Schedule

This week me made our schedule in order to see what we had to do before shooting. Hopefully we will be able to shoot on the 27th November.

Today we made a schedule for our planning and shooting for the video.
We will find a suitable location and take pictures to for our album artwork with the artist in place. The costumes perpetration is very vital as we need to make sure that it's matching to the type of genre and looks good. We will photograph both of these stages to then show our target audience who will give us feedback, this will help us to make any quick adjustments to our video before shooting on the 27th November.

Deconstruction of lyrics REVOFEV - Kid Cudi

The second single off Man On The Moon II, “REVOFEV” is sort of an anthem that sounds a lot like The Wall-era Pink Floyd. Kid Cudi addresses the kids and tells them not to stress. The title comes from the original name of the album:Cudder: The REVolution OF EVolution.
The entire CD is set up as a narrative. Mr. Rager is, for lack of a better term, a split personality of Cudi. REVOFEV is essentially Mr. Rager introducing himself as a carefree partier, "Life does get tough. No need to stress. Holds you back too much". This segways into later acts following Cudi's descent into cocaine addiction among other things. This song is significant in regards to a larger theme of the album which, aside from Cudi’s exploration into his own being, including lots of discussion on his cocaine addiction—pertains to pushing the envelope of creativity in commercial music. Stylistically, Cudi is respected for meshing the poetry of rap with the sounds of alternative rock successfully, and “evolution” may refer to the evolution of music, his album being a “revolution” in its anticipated trajectory.

Group audience research

We asked a larger group of peers what genre of music they liked, who their favourite artists were and what they most liked about their favourite music videos. This feedback was helpful to us as it gave us a clear idea on what to include in ours and generated some ideas for our storyboard.

Audience research

We asked some of our peers questions related to music, such as what genre they liked, how they listened to music and what made a good music video and what made a bad one.

Discussion of target audience

After asking a group of people my questionnaire I was able to get a feel of our audience, what they are interested in and what styles they like. This information is very useful as it will allow us as a group to hopefully make a music video that meets their expectations.

The results showed me that the age range for the audience would be teenagers from 15-17 as the majority followed by 17-21 and 13-15. The range gap is not to bad and almost expected as the genre we are doing would usually cater for these age's. Out of males and females they both seem to be almost equal in interests for our target audience although females are a little more interested, their social class would mainly be middle class and a smaller amount from lower class as they can feel empathy from the lyrics.
The target audience told us that they mainly listen to mainstream music over indie although the artist they listen to may be well known they are not liked by the typical "mainstream" group, likewise the group said that they listened to and watched music videos from Hip hop, R&B and rap genres. A summary of a their personality would be individual, unique and have their own style as well as being reserved and chilled out. These qualities resemble a person who would typically be interested in our genre, whether they have their own style in fashion or design this is definitely a key quality.
Lastly the group made it very clear that they had a strong interest in watching music videos from their liked genres and tended to watch them either everyday, they enjoyed the themes of abstract, art related styles that spoke through the visuals and were cleverly displayed in creative mannerisms.

Chosen song

Our chosen song for our music video is So many details by Toro Y moi. We have chosen this song as a group because we feel we can work well with this song it to producing an aesthetically pleasing music video.
Today as a group we looked at some of the last years blogs to see what they had included in theirs, we analysed the highs and lows of their planning, designing and filming skills. Underneath are two of my favourite blogs:

Ellen's blog really stood out to me as i felt her organisation skills were incredible, she has a clear layout of what steps she has taken from beginning to the end of the project. likewise she has also used a variety of software to portray her work such as Prezi, Glogster and Slide share. Overall i would rate her blog 9/10.

Rhianna's media blog was my second favorite, her blog had a huge amount of posts that were very detailed, the presentation of her planning was very good and clear making me able to understand her ideas from the simple storyboard. In addition her evaluation was done in an exciting way which helped with the presentation.I would rate her blog 8/10.

Genre research- Hip Hop

Our chosen genre for our music video is "Hip Hop". We have chosen this genre as we feel comfortable with the music and we can relate to the style which will help us to create a good music video.

Hip Hop is a genre of music which orientates back from the 70's in New York, it originates from a mixed African and Latino Community which we around in New York at the time. Hip Hop culture has 4 main elements, these are Rapping, DJing, Breaking and Graffiti. The reason Hip Hop began was due to DJ's isolating percussion break from funk or rock music so audiences could dance to it. Back when this first began MC's would speak before the beat of the music, telling jokes or phrases that rhymed this then became more stylized and was  known as rapping. In 1979 Hip Hop had become a popular genre that was widely recorded although the lyrics began to be an issue from their referencing to drugs, violence, sex and misogyny. Never the less the genre kept up its success and now is widely listened to as a mainstream genre.

Here are some examples of Hip Hop artists and music videos:

Group disscussion

This week we spoke about what styles and themes we would like in our music video, as a group we decided we would take and modern approach with a simplistic feel to it, we liked the idea of special effects but we talked about how we would need to make sure they were done very well in order to look professional.
